negotiating mistakes
Common Mistakes in Negotiating
When negotiating there are many mistakes that people make including:
Unprepared
Frequently, people make the mistake of being completely unprepared for the negotiating meeting. This can be for a number of reasons such as stepping in for a colleague, late decision to meet up or just simply lack of time. If you fall into any of these categories then you should not take on the negotiation meeting until you know all the details that you need to know.
Talking too much
Sometimes when people are nervous they tend to talk too much and do not listen when they need to.
Win at all costs
Occasionally, the win win scenario is forgotten about because each party becomes intimidating and want to win themselves. Be careful not to make the mistake of arguing and rather then influencing. Negotiating is all about discussing with others to reach an agreement or compromise.
Attempting to be something your not
Under no circumstances attempt to be something that you are not. You need to always keep your own negotiating style, do not try to adopt anyone else's.
