How to Sell Yourself
In order to sell to other people you also need to be able to sell yourself! Sales professionals who best present themselves to clients or customers are the ones who succeed the most. In order to best present yourself you need to master these 3 things which are:
Appearance
It is widely known that before you even say one word people judge you on your appearance. As a salesperson this can be extremely damaging because if you are not dressed appropriately then a client may not even wish to speak to you let alone negotiate with you.
Therefore, you must wear professional attire even if your client is casually dressed. This normally requires you to wear a well fitted and pressed suit. For woman it is extremely important that you do not wear anything that is too tight or revealing. You should also be able to move comfortably in it and make sure that you check yourself in a long mirror front and back to make sure that everything looks satisfactory.
Also, you must be well groomed and have pleasant facial expressions such as a smile, this will all add to your nice and professional appearance. Also, when you smile it translates in your voice and in turn your customers or clients will pick up on your enjoyment of presenting to them.
Sound of Voice
Your voice also has a huge impact on whether or not clients will listen to you or not. For example, if someone has a very squeaky voice then you find it difficult to listen to them. Therefore, you need to be aware of certain things related to your voice. Most people like to listen to a calm, lower pitched voice and you can with an exercise change your voice to be lower. The exercise involves repeating the following:
"Do, Re, Me, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do."
By practicing this statement a couple of times everyday and lowering the pitch each time, for a month then you will be able to control your voice better.
Another aspect of your voice that you need to control is your volume. You have to ensure that your voice is not too loud that its deafening or that you speak to softly and quickly that people struggle to hear you at all. Try to speak at a reasonable level and pace so that people can clearly understand you.
You need to also take into consideration your tone and speed of the delivery of your presentation because some people may be from different countries or regions and may not understand your accent that easily. It is also a sound idea to include pauses when important points have been made. Also, if you are not sure how to pronounce words then do not use them.
Verbal
When speaking there are a couple of things that you need to remember such as, try to use short sentences, avoid using jargon and avoid using words such as "Umm" or "like".
